Another unhappy customer

The plastic augur breaks easily. It is cold, the plastic becomes brittle and it breaks if the ice tray becomes too full or if the ice melts and refreezes into a mass. Too bad they used such inadequate material for a component that gets stressed.

Similar to other reviews, this replacement broke again. It is really too bad for GE. GE should learn about customer service from Tesla or Amazon, if it isn't right, fix it and ensure customer satisfaction. So my next replacement I purchased from Amazon for a fraction of the price.

Poor ratings all over the board for GE. I have to shell out $170 for a complete kit to replace one poorly designed part AND the auger is made of plastic. Seriously. Invest in some good designers. I feel bad for anyone working customer support for GE. Must be one angry customer after the next.

Poor design

We have had to replace the auger twice now on the GE refrigerator that we purchased 4 years ago. The acrylic plastic that the auger blades are made of break off in pieces that could be easily mistaken for broken ice. Seems like a design error that GE should have corrected by now. (The on-off switch for the icemaker is also located in an inconvenient place - behind the ice bucket itself. The entire bucket has to be removed to turn the icemaker off and on.)

An example of poor engineering.

Just ordered the third auger for our GE ice maker... four broken so far. Just for the record for current owners, these augers have a one year warranty. That means I'll get two for the price of one in the following year, since they only last about four months at best. These should be made of polycarbonate instead of acrylic plastic. Acrylic cannot withstand the stress involved. GE Parts, save the response effort and instruct your engineering department to fix this problem! Sure makes expensive ice!!
